Khust Castle, The Carpathians, Ukraine

This castle was built in the XI c. as the Hungarian royal castle for the defence of the salt way. And it was destroyed by an explosion in the XVIII c. Now it is called as the Drakula Castle.
Certaintly, it is a legend, but you now, I can download my pictures - only one, the first :-(

For me it was quite strange and frighten place. Imagine, you have to go up during 1,5 hours to the empty woody hill with the cemetory in its half-way. It was unexpectable, because these ruins are like in the centre of a small town. I was alone and in the half-way I was completely afraid and wanted to go back, but it was shame to do it and pity... So I walked up and up to hope to meet people at least in the top. I saw people only twice. And you know in such a place you don't know is it better or not :-). Then, in the top it was even more awful. I was alone, only with stones and "jungles"... I ran there and tried to do photos with my hands trembling... and then I ran down... As a result I reduced near 3 kg :-) or more....

Next On “Dr. Drew’s Kleptos”…

Meet Frankie. Obsessive-compulsive hoarder. Steals items that fuel his love for “The Nutcracker” and dental hygiene.

We just feel bad for that poor ballerina out there who’s tippy-toeing around with hairy legs and bad teeth.

So that’s where all of my pens went. I suspect he has a few of my socks as well, Paige P.

New Soap Mold + Soap Ramble

I decided to use the last of my silicone and make a second soap mold. Sometime mid-January I'd like to pour some more soaps. I ran a poll on Deviantart for a 6th scent to add to the line-up, and Lavender won. When I make soaps again, this will be the final scent/color lineup:

Black Raspberry Vanilla (Black Soaps)
Brown Sugar & Fig (Bronze Soaps)
Eucalyptus & Spearmint(Emerald Green Soaps)
Fresh Vanilla(White Shea Butter Soaps)
Juicy Cranberry (Red Soaps)
Lavender (Pastel Purple Shea Butter Soap)

The new mold that I made to go with the dragon was a kitsune. I kept it simple and round... with the exception of the ears. They stick out. I tried making fox ears that layed against the head, but it just didn't look right. I worry that this may have been a mistake, because I don't think that it will be very nice to use as soap with ears sticking out. I also worry that though I made them fairly thick, that when cast as soap they may be rather breakable. Could be a problem for demolding and shipping :-/

Another issue that I ran into was that I used all the rest of the silicone that I had left. It was *just* enough to cast this second mold. The bottom of the mold is very thin along the bottom, with the deepest part of the mold being a mere 1/16-1/8 inch thick. This won't effect the soap itself, but I fear that the mold may not be very durable. If it lasts through 15 castings I'll be surprised. (I made over 100 dragons on the first dragon mold. It's still holding together, but it was a very thick mold.) Until I get my soap supplies I won't know the final weight on the kitsune, though I did try and keep it of a similar volume to the dragon. The dragon casts a soap that's 4.3-4.5oz.

Between the fragile mold and concern about the ears, this may end up being a very very limited edition soap. When I finally get my soap supplies, I'm going to cast a single kitsune, see how it demolds, then try and break off its ears. Depending on how easily they snap, I'll decide whether or not it's something that can actually be sold or not. I have no doubt I'll be able to snap them off, but it is going to depend on how much effort it takes. If it takes a bit of effort, then they'll probably ship just fine :-)

Apologies on the lack of art posted to this journal of late. Most of what I've been doing the past few months has been exclusively book related. I'd prefer that much of the book be a surprise. :-) Once I finish, I hope to resume normal sketch posts and the like. For now, everyone gets to deal with mah craft binge instead! :-)

I did draw a bunneh oekaki on the NDA oekaki boards. Click to view animation. :-)

At Last, a Moment to Myself

“Whew!  I cannot believe I held it together this year.  Got all the Christmas cards mailed, shuttled three sets of relatives from airports to hotels, and got all the presents wrapped and under the tree at the last minute.

“Well, at least Junior’s decided to do me a favor and let me sleep in on Christmas morning…”

Artsy-Fartsy Baby Bongo Born at Busch Gardens

The other animals thought he was crazy when he started painting his own body. But we just call him Keith Haring.

And here’s the real story: Busch Gardens welcomed a baby bongo to the park Sept. 13. Bongo are native to the rainforests of Africa. Busch Gardens cares for the endangered Eastern Mountain subspecies of bongo.

Keep on truckin

Had another PT appointment yesterday. Told her mildly the work I did over the weekend. She rolled her eyes and shook her head. I didn't tell her the worst parts, of course, like how I had to stand at the gate and open and close it in the deep snow so that he could move the horses in and out. Yeah, we didn't mention that part...
My back is feeling a bit better, though it twinged a bit today, but calmed down after a while again thankfully. I'm glad to be bouncing back quickly, I have too much that I want to do!
My appointment went well with Kim, I REALLY like working with her. We were quite amused because she had three of us in there at one time, my appointment, the woman that comes in a half hour after me, and the next person, who was 45 minutes early. Kim really works hard to work with her patients, which is cool. She sent the woman behind me off to start her exercises, and she just goes and gets on the machines and starts working without Kim even needing to set things up. We were laughing about how self reliant all Kim's patients are.
I did tell her that I felt like I was good on Friday, but the weekend was pretty rough, mostly because of all the work I did, really. I felt like I had close to 70 on Friday evening, but it is so hard to tell with the brace, really, impossible I guess. She did some bending work, and it caught and cracked a few times, which was painful, but at least she knows what is happening. She did a few things working with the patella trying to make it easier for me, which helped some. I guess it will just take time.
Then she actually put me on a few of the machines. They have a special bike that the pedals can be adjusted so that the flexion required isn't a full bend. She let me work on that for 5 minutes. I was really slow because even as short as she had it set, it was a bit challenge to make it a full revolution on the left side. Hopefully that will be even smoother next week.
She also put me on the total gym, which I actually liked. I basically had to do a leg press, which started out feeling odd, and then felt better the longer I worked. That seems to be the way it goes, its hard at first, and then smooths out as I keep working. She let me finish up with the russian stim, which is just as annoying as the electrostim. All seems the same to me.
She recommeneded that I come down a few minutes early so that she can put some heat on it, which is just fine by me!
She was glad that everything went well with my doc, and was pleased with her recommendations to keep moving forward. She said as long as I am making good progress that we can stay at one visit per week. She's really conscious of the fact that its a $40.00 copay for me for every visit. So as long as I am getting close to 10 degrees each week, then I'm ok, and can keep doing things the way that we are.
I came home today and ended up doing 4 sets of 10 instead of 3. It felt fine, no real extra strain, which is good. I couldn't tell if I was any closer to 70 degrees or not, but it felt pretty good. I feel like I ought to be at more than 60 degrees by now without too much effort, but its so hard to tell. I think I'm just going to have to keep pushing as much as possible. Over the holiday and weekend hopefully I can put in some extra reps and really try to get it further so that I am comfortably at 70, and able to push beyond that when she really works me. We'll see anyway.
